Sisk choose SmartPly SiteProtect for new Microsoft construction site
Following the January launch of SiteProtect from SmartPly, the durable, pre-coated, smooth panel developed specifically for site hoarding and security applications has been embraced by contractors across Ireland who have been seeking an FSC certified, high quality, secure site barrier product which is locally produced and manufactured.
SmartPly, part of the panel products division of Coillte, the Irish forestry and forest products company, is an innovative, environmentally-friendly timber-based construction products manufacturer located in Waterford. Their new product, SiteProtect, has been designed to save both time and money. As the SmartPly OSB3 substrate is coated with a smooth heavy-duty exterior cross-linked polymer surface treatment, there is no need to prime. Where corporate colours are required, fewer coats of paint are needed, and logos can be applied directly, providing high performance with reduced labour costs.
Grange Castle Business Park near Dublin will be the home of a brand new European Data Centre for Microsoft Ireland at the end of this year. The main building contractors, John Sisk and Sons Limited, commenced work in late 2007 on the development, which will comprise offices, computer and associated support and workshop areas, loading docks and storage of electrical components, plant and equipment, and SmartPly's SiteProtect product is now the hoarding of choice for this construction site.
Sisk is the largest general contracting company in Ireland with offices in Dublin, Belfast, Cork, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford. Sisk is committed to helping clients achieve competitive advantage through a flexible and innovative approach to design, construction and fit-out, and SmartPly's new SiteProtect panel meets their demand for environmentally friendly, ‘made in Ireland' product. Neil Foot, managing director of SmartPly Europe Ltd. says "SiteProtect is a natural extension to our product range. Site hoarding for all types of construction and temporary works is vital for safety and security and must be simple to erect, strong and durable. Our extensive research revealed the importance of keeping product miles low, and for products to present a top quality image which is why we have made it smooth and easy to paint well. SmartPly SiteProtect is the smart, smooth, paintable, FSC certified answer."
Microsoft has three divisions at Sandyford in south Dublin - a European operations centre, a European development centre, and an Irish sales, marketing and services operation. It is anticipated that the new €370 million, 50,000 sq.m development will lead to the creation of 250 new jobs and when completed, is expected to be similar to the new Microsoft centre near Seattle in Washington state.
In October last year, Mircrosoft Ireland's managing director, Paul Rellis addressed the Oireachtas (Parliament of Ireland) Subcommittee on Ireland's future in the EU, saying "Next year we will officially open a European Data Centre which is currently being built in Grange Castle Business Park in Dublin. This facility will deliver Windows Live services and store data for the company's online services businesses such as MSN and Windows Live. We are investing $500m in the construction phase of the data centre and additional substantial investment planned to kit out the centre with the latest available server technology. This new investment highlights the importance of Ireland to Microsoft's global operations and underscores our ongoing commitment to this country".
