Overbury & Allsite choose new SmartPly SiteProtect site hoarding
Newham Council is bringing 2,000 of its key office based staff together under one roof in the Royal Docks, east London, in Building 1000 - the £70m landmark first phase of the Royals Business Park, off Royal Albert Way, only a short distance from Canary Wharf.
Better services for local people and cost savings were behind Newham Council's decision to move staff from 24 expensive to run buildings scattered across the borough into one efficient office space. Jointly developed by Standard Life Investments and Development Securities in partnership with the London Development Agency, Building 1000 dominates the mile-long frontage of the 50 acre Royals Business Park site overlooking the Royal Albert Dock and London City Airport.
Overbury started the fit-out in July 2008 and is expecting it to be completed in early June. Following the launch of SiteProtect from SmartPly earlier this year, the durable, pre-coated, smooth OSB panel developed specifically for site hoarding and security applications has been embraced by contractors across the UK seeking an FSC certified, high quality, secure site barrier product which has low product miles and is cost efficient. Overbury PLC and their subcontractor Allsite Services & Logistics Ltd. are two such companies. Allsite Services & Logistics Ltd carry out builders' works packages, such as hoardings, for Overbury. "SiteProtect is visually impressive and excellent quality," says Simon Meeks, Allsite Services & Logistics director. "The OSB panel comes pre-coated with a very smooth finish and is really quick and easy to erect, saving us the time - and our clients the cost - of priming, then applying several coats of paint. The new entrance hoarding at Building 1000, for which we used SiteProtect, has already endured the severe snow we had in February and is proving really weather resistant. It's a great product and we intend to use SiteProtect for all of our exterior work."
The Royals Business Park £500m scheme will ultimately provide 148,000m2 of high specification office space and 9,000 m2 of retail and leisure facilities and is set to become London's largest business park, offering City-calibre office accommodation in a distinctive glass and steel architectural style, with a dramatic five storey Winter Garden reception.
