Over 2000 sheets of FSC certified SmartPly OSB3 has been supplied to the Glastonbury Festival by local supplier, Snows Timber. "We are striving to keep pushing ourselves on the green issues within the festival. All the wood used by the festival is locally sourced and wherever possible it is Forest Stewardship Certified (FSC) suppliers, ensuring it is sustainable sourced," say the organisers of the Glastonbury Festival.
The sheets of SmartPly OSB3 in 15mm and 18mm and SmartPly T&G (tongue and groove) have been used throughout the festival areas in a huge range of applications including flooring, panelling, furniture, signage, hoarding and walkways. Geoff Rhodes, marketing and business development director for Coillte Panel Products, SmartPly's parent division, says "Glastonbury's continuing commitment towards limiting the environmental impact of the festival reflects our own commitment to environmental responsibility. It is testament to our forest certification and diligence from trees to trucks which enables an environmentally sensitive event such as Glastonbury to regularly use our products." The Glastonbury Festival is also the biggest single regular donor to Greenpeace, offering a fertile recruitment ground for members and for promoting environmental campaigns. Their focus for 2009 is the controversy around Heathrow's proposed third runway, for which Greenpeace have also continued their used of FSC certified SmartPly by using new durable coated hoarding product SmartPly SiteProtect to build a Greenpeace International Airport and Departure Lounge.
