SMARTPLY SITEPROTECT HELPS KEEP WAVERLEY STATION RUNNING

This spring, major improvement work commenced at Network Rail’s Waverley Station, Edinburgh, as part of a £130m renovation. Led by main contractor Balfour Beatty, over three years the transformation of Waverly Station will include a new 34,000m2 roof of clear, strengthened glass, the restoration of the station’s Victorian ironwork, steelwork repairs and renovation of two footbridges.

Throughout the work at Waverley, the station will remain open and operational during the improvements. A scaffolding ‘crash deck’ has been placed at the east end of the station to support work on the roof. This will be moved east to west across the station as the work progresses. For increased safety at ground level, and to keep the working environment separate from the passengers, staff and pedestrians, Balfour Beatty contracted a minimum of 900 sheets of SmartPly SiteProtect as the secure hoarding.

The smooth heavy-duty exterior cross-linked polymer coating provides an excellent surface for artwork, advertisements, company logos and painting, and the substrate of SiteProtect - SmartPly OSB3, a tough, engineered wood-based panel product without added formaldehyde - makes the panel suitable for both exterior and interior applications.

SmartPly SiteProtect is supplied in standard dimensions of 2440 mm x 1220 mm x 18 mm for interior and exterior use. SmartPly OSB is part of the panel products division of Coillte, the Irish forestry and forest products company.
