MPB STRUCTURES USES SMARTPLY SITEPROTECT TO KEEP WESTFIELD STRATFORD CITY SITE PROTECTED

Westfield Stratford City, the retail gateway to London’s Olympic Park, is set to become the UK’s second largest shopping mall, and the largest urban shopping centre in Europe. By the time the centre opens in September 2011, family owned MPB Structures, specialising in earthworks, drainage, substructure reinforced concrete works, civil engineering and railway infrastructure, expects to have used well over 50 packs of SmartPly SiteProtect supplied by MeyerTimber.com through a local merchant as the secure hoarding for the entire site.

SmartPly SiteProtect is the FSC certified primed site and security hoarding product from Coillte Panel Products. Michael Begley, project manager for MPB Structures at Westfield Stratford City, says “We originally used SiteProtect two years ago for hoarding, some of which is 4 metres high and it is still performing as well as the day it went up. It’s a great product; it has a smooth finish which is quick to paint and it doesn’t warp or split like some other hoardings. We’re just finishing the process of replacing non-SiteProtect hoarding panels with SiteProtect, hoarding which has been up for a fraction of the time but which has already deteriorated”.

With the retail construction and fit-out well underway for ‘anchor’ stores Marks & Spencer and John Lewis, as one of the most environmentally efficient retail centres in the UK, Westfield Stratford City has been designed to achieve excellence in environmental sustainability, with some of the most stringent guidelines imposed on its construction and ongoing management. “MPB Structures has a strong environmental standing, and sustainable environmentally responsible site hoarding was key for this project,” continues Mr. Begley.
